DoSoEvAyMo

With all of this talk of the NaNoWriMo and NaNoBloPoMo (don’t they both sound like anime characters names) going on through the blogworld I got to thinking.

I don’t want to spend the month writing all those words with my face stuck in my laptop or journal. I’ve been doing enough of that at work as I prepare for an impending Federal Review of my program and just keeping up with the daily documentation that I am obligated to do. So I decided to dedicate November to Bibliomom’s Do Something Every Day Month.

There are so many things that I haven’t done recently because I’ve been busy. So here I will start with a working list of the things that I would like to do this month. If I don’t do them all (which I’m sure I won’t) I’ll roll them over. If I get around to writing about them that’s great too but if I don’t (shrugs).

1. Finish a book. (Ugh I’m so upset with myself on this since I haven’t finished one since my last addition to my Biblio-file)
2. Listen to all of my favorite WPR (Wisconsin Public Radio) and NPR shows.
3. Put together a puzzle with my 7 year old.
4. Make a cheesecake that I have envisioned in my head to see if it works.
5. Go to a movie with my 7 year old.
6. Have lunch with my friends that I used to work with.
7. Invest in postage and spend more time sending snailmail to friends and family.
8. Get the diaper changing table out of my bedroom because I don’t use it anyway.
9. Do a crossword puzzle.
10. Watch Possession for the umpteeth time.
11. Read Poetry (particularly ee cummings and Emily Dickinson)
12. Take my daughters to the children’s museum down the street from where I work.
13. Make homemade pizza.
14. Go to school and have lunch with my daughter.
15. Spend an afternoon with my sister.
16. Make bread.
17. Make pancakes and chicken pot pie (this one is added per my 7 year old)
18. Take the girls (both of them, it’s an adventure with the little one) to the library (find my oldest daughters overdue library book to return)
19. Invite my Dad over for dinner.
20. Write in the letter journals for my daughters that I have neglected.

This sounds much more practical and fun than NaBloPoMo. I think you’ll have a very enjoyable month. :)

Is it just happenstance that a large percentage of the things you hope to do this month involve food? I think that says so much about our society. Best relationships are built on the frequency of sharing meals, satisfying our hungers, and staying in touch with full and happy stomachs.

  3. I especially like the “go to a movie with your 7 year old”.

Last night, we had forced family fun night. We watched Pippi Longstocking (the live action one from the 70s — I do have a few things to say about that more privately). My older child signed it out from the library knowing that I’d seen that movie in the theatre with my Mom. It was a big enough deal to me that I remember it all these decades later and told my kids about it. The younger one was a bit disappointed with the movie — it skipped parts of the book. I was pleased to see that lesson learned too.

    The rest sound good too.

Hmmm. I might want to take this on…What a great idea. Doing something everyday. Of course, we DO something every day, but to take note of it, that’s worth something all on its own.

For an update now that my blog is back up after my little time out from blogworld.

    So far I’ve done
    1, 3 and 17.

And to think Novembers almost over. I better kick it in the pants.

Um, good list, but that’s only twenty items. What about the other ten days?

  8. I’m still not finished that book. I think I’m going to do it the way my neighbour did. Wait six months and then motor through the second half. I’ve read three other books in the meantime and just started a fourth.

been missin your blog B-mom. I second Stevo’s comment… good to see you back. Do #19… that’s a good one. Maybe I’ll do #10. Loves me my Gwyneth Paltrow.

For #18 I did find and return the book

Pan: You know! I’m not going to get these 20 things done so I knew better than to force myself to go to 30.

Goat: You know I really lost a lot of interest in the second half. After they had sex in the new house it sort of went downhill from that. Which was sad.

  11. My neighbour and my sweetie both liked it. So, I think I’ll persist. But, not now.

I have an idea for another book. I’ll tell you about it later.

I love this list and am so happy to see you back!

  13. Have you ever read Possession? It’s such a great book — the movie isn’t bad, but doesn’t begin to do it justice.

    bibliomom Says:

I have read the book. I read the book BEFORE I watched the movie. I love the book. It’s just faster to watch the movie.

  15. 15

    You’re right … it’s much faster. :-)

I’ve been listening to a bunch of WPR/NPR lately and this weekend I was able to catch, “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me”, some Michael Feldman, “To The Best of Our Knowledge” and “This American Life”

The girls and I spent some time at the library today and my oldest came home with a few books and has already finished 3 of them. Tonight I hope to do either a crossword or watch possession.

In the past few days I’ve done a crossword puzzle and yesterday I made a cheesecake. Today my family will be celebrating Thanksgiving so I’ll be spending the afternoon with my sister and hopefully tomorrow as well. I also crossed out making bread. I sort of cheated since it’s beer bread but it’s in a bread pan and I just took it out of the oven.
