Dreaming

This morning I sat on the edge of my 7 year old daughters bed to get her up for the day.

I enjoy the mornings when I can walk in and sit down brush her red hair out of her face and say, “Princess it’s time to get up”. There are mornings, more frequent in their occurence, in which I open the door to her room and say, “It’s time to get up” as I’m carrying her little sister on my hip. Today her sister had outslept us, or at least me. Usually her questioning “Mommy?” is the alarm that sets my day in motion. It’s as if her first thought was, “Your still here right Mommy, you didn’t go , you still love me as much as last night right?” The answer of course is always the same. With a kiss on her cheek as I pick her up and snuggle her close is always unspoken between us, “Yes Pumpkin I’m still here and I’ll always love you”.

Back to the topic at hand since it appears that I have wandered in my recollection of the morning. I’m waxing emotional it seems.

So I sit and stroke her hair.

“Hug me, ” my seven year old says and so I hug her. Some day that won’t be her first request of me as she wakes up so I cherish this moment.

“I had a dream last night,” she tells me.

I like being the one that she shares her dreams with. Even the ones that scare her are precious to me. Her dreams are little glimpses inside that brilliant mind that is growing exponentially every day.   Her dreams tell me, “Mom I’m okay, don’t worry so much. I’ll grow up fine and happy and continue to have dreams“.

“I dreamed that we were at the library”

I smiled, “That’s a good dream sweetheart”.

“Ohh Mom no! That’s the best dream!”

  1. She has her priorities in order, that’s for sure. Love that!

  2. I like this post and the preceding post as well. They both say what kind of mother you are and paint an obvious picture of how incredibly lucky your girls are – not in spite of their circumstances, but because of them. Cheers to you and keep up the wonderful ways of who you are!

  3. I’m glad you had that moment with her. No matter how many of those moments we have with out little ones, it is never enough.

  4. I bet you’re a great mother, and I like your girls just from reading about them. I would happily be their Aunt — uh, Aunt Tigereye.

    Are you feeling better?

  5. Like mother, like daughter?

    Lovely story!

  6. Beautiful! And I love the last line.

  7. That is the best dream.

I have a 17 year old boy-man, and the days when he still wants to cuddle with his mom on the sofa are the best of all. Cherish every hug.

  8. Nice…more kids should dream about libraries.
