This is the first in a three part series on looking back on the past year and looking forward into the next
What words will define this year for me?
Divorce : 2007 will go down in infamy as the year that my divorce from my high school sweetheart/husband of 10 years was final. No matter how you stack it that’s huge.
Discovery: 2007 was also the year where I began to discover who I was. Not who someone else said I was or what someone else said I should be. It was the start of my discovery of the WHO that I am. Other people might not like her. Some might not want to love her. But I choose to adore her. I choose to no longer look down on myself for how much better I could be but accept that I’m not perfect and just try to be my best.
What are my books of the year?
Two come to mind. eat, pray, love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I can’t say enough about this book. It’s the perfect read for a woman in the middle of discovery and divorce. It’s the story of a womans unconventional journey towards finding herself in the world and inside of herself.
The second book was a book that complimented eat, pray, love immensely, I Hear Voices by Jean Feraca. Together these books showed me strong women who were facing life altering changes with humor, intelligence and a fair dose of grace when needed.

Brief Highlights of 2007
- Little one’s first birthday! First words, first step, first sentences. A year of firsts!
- Como Zoo
- Getting a sofa.
- Saving my daughters cat (and her litter of four kittens) from her Dad’s house and certain death and giving them a home in a place that doesn’t allow pets. (We still have the stubby tongued cat who has since been spayed. I no longer refer to her as tongueless as she has been able to adapt quit well to a shorter than normal cat tongue. She’s amazing and a very welcome addition to our home. As long as my landlord doesn’t find out)
- My oldest starting second grade.

Ah, cute photos. Your baby is a doll.
Como Zoo!? I love that place! Of course, I lived just a short bus ride away in my long and distant future.
This is a great idea, Wurdz.

Huh. My divorce from my highschool sweetheart (of 11 years) was this year, too! (Although things were really over last year).
Hope 2008’s better for you!
Wonderful photos. I can’t wait for the rest of the series.
Wonderful start! I’m sure the rest will be equally wonderful.
You’ve been through an awful lot this year. I think back to my first year of divorce and I have to chuckle. I thought I had survived at the end of the first year, only to discover that it kept getting worse and worse. Now, 15 years after, I’ve finally arrived. Except that next year will bring more changes as my youngest turns 18, leaves the nest, and I am left alone, with reduced funds! I can see that next year will be a year of changes for me, once again.
Hello Biblio,
I am a huge new Colbie Caillat fan. I am very smitten with the song Bubbly, but every song on her album, Coco, is a keeper. Kudos to you for saving your daughter’s cat(s). Good luck with your voyage of discovery!
Allison
P.S. I found your page through the “life” tag. The name Bibliomom intrigued me.
I’d hafta say your Sarah Bareilles made my highlights too, and I’m so very glad you read eat pray love.
A divorce after 10 years is huge, and look where you are now! Defining the life you want to live, the who you want to be and raising a happy household all at the same time. I’m sure it does get overwhelming, but you’re doing great. We never know, really, how strong we are until we hafta be.

I love that to, but my hubby doesnt want it, that is really to bad.
