Not So Live Blogging the Read-A-Thon with a Hangover

7:00 am

As usual I was up at 5:30 am this morning.  The not so usual part was that I am a tad bit hungover.  Vodka is such an evil drink.   It’s so sneaky and by the time you realize what it’s doing to you you’re too far gone to do anything about it.  I’m up.  Showered.  Freshly shaved legs.  Warm cup of  Tazo Awake tea and now while my hair dries I will start reading.

Hungover.  I’m quit possibly the webs worst bookie!

I’m going to keep track of pages read and not books finished.  This is my first Read-A-Thon and well did I mention that I’m hungover??

Before I head off to do some reading I’m going to answer the questions for the Hour 1 Introductory Meme

Where are you reading from today?

3 facts about me …

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time?

Where am I reading from?

Wisconsin, where the weather is beautiful!

3 facts about me!

  1. I picked up my new Vera Wang glasses yesterday!
  2. I’m a single Mom of two little girls who love to read and I think a family read-a-thon is in our future.  Some rainy weekend.
  3. It used to drive my ex husband crazy how I’d bring a book with everywhere we went.  He also wouldn’t let me read in bed at night because the light bothered him.  One of the things that I’ve enjoyed about being divorced is that I can read in bed all that I want!

What am I reading?
Well I hope to finish America’s Women by Gail Collins. I also grabbed a couple of Newberry Award winners from the library The Midwifes Apprentice by Karen Cushman and The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare.  My TBR pile is so deep that I think I’m drowning in it and so I have plenty other options piled up around this place.

Goal for this Read-a-Thon

I’m a read-a-thon virgin and so with this I’m setting the bar.  It’s probably a pretty low bar given the fact that I spent too much time IN a bar last night but my goal basically is to participate and find others out there who love to read and to promote literacy.

I did a readathon awhile back with a hangover, so don’t feel too bad. Actually, I was still drunk when it started. Happy reading!

LOL!!! ever blogged while drinking? can be pretty funny. You know what they say what cures a hangover – start drinking again! A book and a beer?

Actually, what’s really GREAT is that you KNOW you’ll start feeling better as the day continues.

    count pages not books! :)

I commend you for committing to do the Read-a-thon challenge even with a hangover. I’m also a single mom of 3 and would love to do a family read-a-thon with my little readers…if you here about one, please let me know! Good Luck today.

Maybe it’s something I’ll have to try to put together. It’s so great to connect to other single parents so thank you for your comment here!

Well, I just read backwards from the top about your Read-a-thon. Sounds like those were hardcore readers.

But I wanted to comment on the part of this post about when one spouse likes to read in bed and the other doesn’t. My husband and I both like to read, but inevitably he will want to read and me not, or vice versa. But we’ve both learned to fall asleep with the light on. I put a pillow over my head, and Jim just falls alseep, usually because he’s so tired from working out in the field. But it didn’t used to be so. I’m glad it is, though.

I kind of see that (light on a night to read) as one of those fundamental make-or-break differences, like political parties/beliefs, or whether you like a certain kind of land (river valley, in our case), or whether you want to have kids. (It’s kind of goofy, but I really do believe it’s an important shared value, or not.)
